This funding, provided through the latest state budget, is part of a combined total of $1 million allocated to Indiana’s 11 food banks. Our state’s regional food banks distribute food and other items daily to Hoosiers in all 92 counties, either directly or through local pantries and soup kitchens. According to Feeding Indiana’s Hungry, over 900,000 Hoosiers are at risk of hunger. Food pantries, food banks, mobile pantries and community kitchens around the state work hard to feed our neighbors, and they could use extra hands to help meet the growing demand. To volunteer with Tri-State Food Bank as they help collect, sort and distribute food to those in need, click here. Volunteers donate more than 150,000 hours of service each year to Indiana food banks, which is equivalent to about 70 additional full-time employees. If you are a volunteer in our community, I thank you for helping our neighbors.
