A collaborative group of Evansville residents have organized a one-day pop-up event to show people what a vibrant downtown Evansville could be by bringing multiple businesses, vendors and organizations together, while working with existing downtown businesses, giving residents an unique opportunity and reason to experience downtown Evansville. This free and family-friendly pop-up event will coincide with the Division II Elite 8 basketball tournament, allowing Evansville visitors to experience Evansville’s downtown. Three vacant buildings along Main Street and the Sycamore building will be used to host this event. Pop Up Main Street was inspired by the Evansville VOICE initiative.

Leadership Evansville, Evansville VOICE, the Growth Alliance of Evansville, Evansville Living, Keep Evansville Beautiful and AXIOM are sponsors of Pop Up Main Street. The list of diverse confirmed vendors who will “pop-up” on Main Street offer something for everyone. Some of these vendors include: Single Thread Boutique, Taylor’s Leather Works, The Dressing Room, Mike Marten Art, United States of Indiana, Fire It Up, Fusion Day Spa and many more! For a full list of vendors participating in this pop-up click here.

While attending a City Core VOICE meeting, some VOICE participants discussed what a vibrant downtown could be and decided to take action. After learning about the new trend many cities around the country are doing, they decided a pop-up event would best showcase what a vibrant downtown Evansville could be for existing residents and visitors. A pop-up retail space is a venue that is temporary. The trend involves “popping-up” in vacant locations for short periods of time. These shops, while small and temporary, can build interest by consumer experience.

    adjective

    full of energy and enthusiasm.

    “a vibrant cosmopolitan city”

    synonyms:spirited, lively, full of life, energetic,vigorous, vital, full of vim and vigor,animated, sparkling, effervescent,vivacious, dynamic, stimulating,exciting, passionate, fiery;

hey are only using three empty buildings on main street?

  2. Thankfully we have a good number of locations on Main street that vendors can pop into. The volume of potential locations for popping in is not meant to demonstrate the unlikeliness of a small business surviving long-term in the space. It’s not like that. It’s more like just pointing how stupid the business was to begin with by not locating downtown. I love this idea.

    • And you know better than the business owner where they should hang their shingle. Revamping building facades and expecting businesses to all of a sudden flock to these locations is treating the business owner like they are nothing more than a Magpie. Sigh.

      • dveatch: (Magpie.Double sigh” Maybe on your towns West Franklin street,or even the downtown 4th street as is,with non metered slant style parking.

        Note: the story board slates…

Been there once, the place is almost 5* “Cool beans”,evansville’s main street will never see this, they’re tied to the wrong theme, and just plain under utilized due to the crappy outdated infrastructures, and, throughput access is actually worse than it was in 1930.
I spoke with an fellow group of Innovationist’s in Oregon the other day who are looking too bringing back the concept of slant style slot main drag parking out in a Oregon coastal location. Wow,they have some cool ideation for the blending.

At one time, before, your foolish locals built that walkway and slung up the gulag across the main street that concept would’a worked miracles in customer accesses from bistro and catering businesses successful in the forward innovative realms of downtown’s and urban renewal conceptualizations.
You know Franklin Street could do that tomorrow and show even more customer throughput access forward. 😉

In the Oregon concept they are going to use Innovative surface coatings that are light sensitive, the parking spots actually appear at sundown and then fad to a different parking theme at daylight to maximize throughput access for certain design timing. They aren’t having any meters, they’ll have real time cloud monitored apps messaging per visit timing for customer business options per location for visitor parking accesses.

Kinda a reminder to share the parking as needed. Neat stuff. No box included per design standards. The way we like it! Fun stuff, boundary layer expansion is universal, the cosmos never stops expanding, why should we.

        • Hey! Just did some walking/dining research down on your West Franklin street passage. What a “clandestine bonanza.” I had an Ideation for something to greatly enhance there…Big time profitable, lasting impression, tourism visitors stuff.

Need to talk to some more of them about the balance of the maximum commerce throughput right there, right now “bang for your buck”. Its a instant bonus that is highly sustainable on the West Franklin street passage, however barely touched conceptually. Picture the E-Trade Baby, add the kids hand out to the pile of funding returns….boom! 😉

Easy accesses are already in place, sustainable infrastructure is incrementally easy along the passage,as well.
Passage theme conceptualization is pretty straight in your face West Franklin street, however this lost in the offerings in the daily commercial passages.

Wow! Ommagosh! Evansville (Lamasco) This needs to be pointed out,its already there,I,just walked through an available GOLD MINE,and whoever is holding the deeds, apparently hasn’t pulled an ounce for assay yet.

  3. Opening a glorified flea bag market in buildings that does not pass up to date building codes yep leadership at its best.Unbelievable ……..
