Evansville’s First Lady, Carol McClintock

Carol McClintock, the spouse of Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke (aka Evansville’s First Lady) has been busy organizing a trip to Amsterdam and Osnabruck. The following email and formal itenarary was sent to the entire City Council and select local business leaders. It is not clear what the cost for the trip is or if public funding is being used for any of the world travelers.

World Travelers! Just wanted to remind you that the deadline for registration for the trip the Amsterdam/Osnabruck is looming! Lloyd and I are already booked for the entire trip. We need confirmation of your plans to join us on the great trip no later than Thursday, January 10th and will need a deposit of $1000 per person plus the Ambassador Traveler Profile Form and copy of your passport. The final payment is due on April 15, 2013.

Judy Steenberg with Ambassador Travel has done an excellent job putting this together for us. She will need that information and credit card information. Her email is judysteenberg@gmail.com, her number is (812)459-5876. She has additional flight and hotel information.

In Amsterdam we are at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. The King Club Room has a media hub, wireless and high speed internet and a flat screen tv. Each room as a “nespresso” machine and there in an exclusive club lounge for complimentary breakfast, drinks and canapes. Full breakfast is also included.

We are so excited about this opportunity to strengthen our ties with our sister city and learn more about how we can improve our city. And, well, enjoy the company of friends…hope you decide to join us!

  1. Is this trip like the ones TV stations and their personalities organize? If enough people sign up, the organizers get their travel free and can stay behind and travel on their own once they put the group on the flight home.

I don’t think much is accomplished on these trips and don’t believe tax dollars should be used to pay for this junket. If Lloyd and Ms. McClintock want to go to Amsterdam and Osnabruck, let them put up their own money. Think about Weinzapfel’s trips to Japan with the Gov. Daniels. What did Evansville gain from that? Political posturing, pure and simple.

BTW: We don’t need to send anyone to Europe to learn what can be done to improve Evansville. There is a long list of obvious projects, including infrastructure issues that must be addressed. Stop trying to distract us with smoke and mirrors.

    • Bill, you are going to have a full time job here, but please keep it up we will all reap the benefits.

  2. It appears that by needing the deposit, and cc info, it is being paid privately, and not with tax dollars.

    • I bet the business folks that were approached have to pay their own way but that the politicians that want to party in Amsterdam with the first family will get a free ride on the taxpayers.

  3. It is obvious by the offering of different “packages” that this is something dreamed up between the “First Lady” and Ambassador Travel.

Perhaps the First Lady is receiving remuneration commensurate with the number of people Ambassador books for the trip, or is Ambassador doing this sans fees?

  4. I would be curious if that $1000.00 will show up for reimbursement in the countless monthly back billings that hit City and County rolls. My guess is they pay upfront, then bill the City.

  5. BTW, it would be nice to see some goals for the trip, what steps are to be taken to achieve those goals, how will success/failure be measured, and when/what will be the reported to confirm success or to document why the trip was unsuccessful.

Oh wait, I forgot this is not a business trip, it’s a government trip.

  6. I now hear from a city council member that President of the Vanderburgh County Commission, Marsha Abell is planning to go on this “political junket”.

My “MOLES” tell me that Marsha Abell was on Ms. Carol McClintock e-mail invititation list for this trip that was sent out recently. Oh, also the Evansville Parks and Rec. Director was also on e-mail list.

Is “Junket Marsha” going to pay her way or shall the taxpayers of this county pay for this useless trip?

  7. Two peas in a pod, Marsha Abell and Carol “self proclaimed Fist Lady of E-viile” Carol McClintock.

Also I wonder why hasn’t both of these women take up the name of there husbands? This really strange.

    • Usually the women claim they have a public and work image that might be damaged if they changed their names. Clients or customers might not be able to find them. Some simply hyphenate their last names.

Maybe their husbands didn’t want the embarrassment of being connected with their public shenanigans and reputations.

  8. Looks like we know what the CCO readers think about Marsha Abell by looking at the most recent political poll.

Wish the CCO could style a poll to see what the readers think of “First Lady” Carol McClintock. It’s my guess the results would be similar to Marsha Abell’s poll.

  9. Someone needs to spend less time as a social butterfly and realize that the job is about “service” to the electorate.

  10. Why do we do this anyhow? I don’t really buy the Economic Development benefits theory.

  11. There’s only one trip that I can think of that resulted in any trade, and it was last year when Weinzapfel went to Mexico. We gave them Whirlpool, they gave us their sewer and water system.

  12. Rails That would be a + 100 if we was counting ,, no one could be any more correct

  13. I’m not going , kinda stupid to fly to Europe when you can smoke good weed legally in Colorado or Washington …..
