Today in Evansville, motorists are seeing a different kind of attorney billboard.
The Evansville Bar Association paid for two billboards to carry a congratulatory message to longtime practitioner Philip Siegel for being recognized with the James Bethel Gresham Freedom Award. Given annually as part of the EBA’s Law Day celebration, the award honors attorneys who have distinguished themselves in the practice of law.
Siegel, 85, Received The Award Law Day Dinner Friday.
Currently a solo practitioner, Siegel has been practicing for 57 years and is known for his professionalism, honor and integrity. He worked as an assistant city attorney before becoming the first attorney for the Vanderburgh County Area Plan Commission. He has also been active in professional organizations, serving as president of the EBA, being tapped as a fellow with the Indiana Bar Foundation and serving on the Indiana State Bar Association board of directors.
He is also a past recipient of the Susan K. Helfrich Pro Bono Award.
Members of the Evansville legal community are well acquainted with Siegel’s generosity and kindness. He still takes time to handwrite letters to colleagues and has a knack for making whomever he is speaking with feel like the most important person in the room. He also started a social gathering for Evansville’s senior lawyers so they could meet to enjoy each other’s company and swap stories.
Also honored at the Law Day dinner was Meagan Brien, associate at Bingham Greenebaum Doll LLP in Evansville. She received the Doran Perdue Service Award.
In her seven years of practicing, Brien has served on the EBA board of directors, chaired the Young Lawyers and the Women Attorneys sections. She has also chaired the mock trial competition and the high school Law Day student lunch as well as co-chaired the Law Day Celebration.
