Some of the rules that Vectren has been telling us will eventually start to raise rates in the rest of the country is taking effect this year and changes are starting. Here is the official statement of the EPA for your information along with a statement from Big Rivers.

There are several reasons Vectren’s electrical rates are the highest in the State. The reasons are not just limited to pollution control equipment. They have several others business not related to electrical power generation. Would they be profitable standing on their own? Vectren owns coal mines and buy their coal from their own mines. They pay over 5o% more to themselves than what other utilities pay for coal. This high cost is passed on to the rate payers. Why is that allowed?
