A Chandler, Indiana man is in custody this morning and facing burglary charges after being caught breaking into his employer’s business after hours.
Just after midnight on Saturday, November 7, 2020 the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office responded to Alvey’s Signs at 13100 SR 57 to investigate a report of a burglary in progress.

The driver identified himself as Mr. Tony Whitmer Jr. Deputies observed multiple pieces of aluminum flashing in the bed of the truck. Whitmer explained that he was an employee of Alvey’s Signs and admitted to being on the property, but denied stealing anything.
Sheriff’s deputies contacted the business and confirmed that Whitmer was an employee of Alvey’s Signs, however he did not have permission to be on the property after hours nor was he authorized to remove inventory.
Whitmer was taken to the Vanderburgh County Jail and booked on charges of Burglary as a Level 5 Felony, Theft as a Level 5 Felony and multiple traffic infractions. The stolen property was returned to the business.
