WHO: USI will host a presentation by Keith Beauchamp, the Emmy-nominated documentary filmmaker. Beauchamp has been featured on 60 Minutes, ABC World News Tonight ‘Person of the Week,‘ Court TV, MSNBC, Good Morning America, CNN, BBC, and in hundreds of publications around the world, including The New York Times, Washington Post, USA Today, Associated Press and the Chicago Sun-Times. He is currently the executive producer and host of Investigation Discovery’s crime reality series, The Injustice Files, and the producer of the upcoming feature film Till.
Sophie Kloppenburg, a Mount Vernon, Indiana, high school senior, and Dr. Kristalyn Schefveland, USI Associate Professor of History, will also be recognized. Kloppenburg and Schefveland were involved in a project to create a memorial commemorating seven African American victims of 1878 lynchings/murders in Posey County revealed in October 2022 in Mount Vernon. This portion of the Celebration Luncheon is not being publicized pre-event, so we ask you please not include in pre-event coverage.
Maya Ragland and Robert Hughes from the Children’s Center for Dance Education will be performing a dance to Stand Up during the Celebration Luncheon. Stand Up is a song from the 2022 Movie Till (Beauchamp is the producer of the film). The dance is choreographed by Deena Laska-Lewis.
Taegan Garner, USI Student Government Association President, will give a student reflection, and Damien Doss, USI Student Athlete Development and Retention Coordinator, will provide a reflection. Doss is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. the same fraternity as King, Jr.Â

WHEN: The USI Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Luncheon is at 11 a.m. today, Monday, January 16. Doors open to those who have purchased tickets at 10:15 a.m.
