MELBOURNE, FL. – University of Southern Indiana Men’s Golf completed their first match of the spring season on Tuesday, finishing 12th out of 15 teams at the Panther Invitational at the Duran Golf Club in Melbourne, Florida.

USI saw a slow start in round one on Sunday. The Screaming Eagles found themselves in 13th place after shooting 318 as a team. USI picked it up in round two, shooting a 305 which had them placed in 11th after the second round. The Eagles fell back slightly in round three, finishing the day with a team score of 311. USI finished the three-day tournament shooting a total score of 934 (+70).

Senior Matthew Kingston (Springfield, Nebraska) led the way for the Eagles, finishing tied for 49th. Kingston carded a 232 (+16) over the three-round tournament, shooting 83-71-78. Junior Zach Williams (Mt. Vernon, Illinois) was the second leading scorer for USI, finishing tied for 53rd after carding a 233 (+17) and shooting 78-79-76 on the tournament.

Freshman Nathan Hoss (Evansville, Indiana) finished tied for 55th, carding a 234 (+18) while shooting 77-79-78. Freshman Jason Bannister (Laguna Niguel, California) finished tied for 57th after carding a 235 (+19), shooting 80-76-79 on the tournament. Sophomore Peyton Short (Greenwood, Indiana) rounded out the tournament for the Eagles, finishing tied for 78th, carding a 251 (+35) while shooting 85-83-83.

USI had two golfers compete as individuals, sophomore Jace Day (Bloomington, Indiana) recorded the best score for the Eagles, carding a 230 (+14), shooting 81-75-74. Day finished tied for 42nd.  Junior Evan Bonnell (Evansville, Indiana) was the final golfer for USI. Bonnell finished 84th while carding a 263 (+47), shooting 87-89-87. Bonnell was also one of two golfers in the tournament to make multiple eagles with two.
