Eagles Focus Shifts to Stegemoller Classic

The University of Southern Indiana men’s and women’s cross country teams begin their season Friday at Angel Mounds for the Stegemoller Classic.

This year’s Stegemoller field includes harriers from all divisions, including McKendree University, Murray State University, MacMurray College (Ill.), Oakland City University, and UT-Martin,

Both Screaming Eagles squads made appearances in national and regional polls as part of the USTFCCCA Preseason Rankings, where the men were slotted second in the Midwest region and ninth in the nation. The women were third in the region and eleventh nationally.

Angel Mounds previously served as the 2017 NCAA Division II National Championship site for both the men and women’s races. Previously it also hosted the Division II Midwest Regionals in 2016.

The women’s five-kilometer race starts at 5:50 p.m., while the men’s race begins at 6:20 p.m. for a 7k.

TAKE NOTE:

  • Junior Austin Nolan (Evansville, Indiana) is the reigning GLVC Cross Country Champion
  • USI men have secured 13-straight GLVC Championships
  • Eight freshmen on both men’s and women’s squads make their debut
  • The last time USI started this late in the season was 2010 with the Appalachian State Mountaineer Opener
