The University of Southern Indiana men’s tennis team defeated Bellarmine University, 9-0, Friday afternoon in Louisville, Kentucky at the Eddie Webber Tennis Complex. The win is the eighth in a row for the 45th ranked Screaming Eagles who improve to 13-3 on the season and 3-0 in Great Lakes Valley Conference competition. During the team’s current win streak, they have outscored opponents 68-4.
All three doubles tandems increased their win streaks in the sweep of the Knights. Junior Paul Forichon(Nimes France) and sophomore Samuel Kiladejo (London, England) picked up the 8-0 sweep to improve their record to 9-2 on the year with their eighth straight win. Seniors Jack Joyce (Bourenmouth, England) and Joel Stern (Mjoelby, Sweden) earned an 8-0 win to remain undefeated on the year with their ninth win. The win also moves Joyce into a tie with head coach Chris Crawford for fifth place with 77 career doubles wins. Junior Aaron Barris (Marietta, Georgia) and freshman James Hardiman (Blackwell Bristol, United Kingdom) also stay undefeated with their tenth win of the year.
The win streaks remain just as impressive in singles competition. Joyce earned his first win at number-one this season to improve to 15-4 with his ninth consecutive win. At number-three, Hardiman earned a 6-1, 6-3 win to move his current streak to seven. Freshman Ilia Karelin (Ekaterinburg, Russia) andAnthony Van Rompay (Schilde, Belgium) both earned their fourth straight victory at number-five and six. Karelin earned the 6-3, 6-3 win while Van Rompay dominated his opponent 6-0, 6-1.
The Eagles will put their winning streak on the line again tomorrow afternoon when the Pumas of Saint Joseph’s College comp to Evansville for an 11 a.m. match at the USI Tennis Courts.
