Eagles Dominate 3,000, Weight Throw In Season-Opener

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind.—University of Southern Indiana Women’s Track & Field dominated the 3,000 meters and the weight throw in its 2016 Indoor season-opener Saturday at the Little Giant Invitational.

Led by senior Jamie Adkins (Owensboro, Kentucky), the Screaming Eagles landed the top seven finishers in the 3,000 meters. Adkins finished first in the event with a time of 10 minutes, 28.18 seconds. Sophomores Bryce Cutler (Benzonia, Michigan) and Jessica Lincoln (Palatine, Illinois) finished second and third, respectively, while junior Carly Whitesell (Zionsville, Indiana) and freshman Hope Jones (Cumberland, Indiana) were fourth and fifth, respectively.

Sophomore thrower Dasia Moore (Indianapolis, Indiana) earned her first career collegiate victory with a first-place showing in the weight throw. Moore, who also was eighth in the shot put, posted a career-best toss of 42 feet, eight inches, to earn the win.

USI went 1-2-3 in the weight throw, with senior Jordan Jones (Bargersville, Indiana) and freshman Hilary Paxson (Liberty Center, Indiana) finishing second and third, respectively.

In total, USI posted two wins and 14 top-five efforts on the day. Sophomores Emily Roberts (Fredericktown, Ohio) and Jenna Martin (Evansville, Indiana) aided the Eagles with second-place finishes in the mile and the 60-meter hurdles, respectively.

USI returns to action January 22-23 when it competes at the Gladstein Invitational in Bloomington, Indiana, and the University of Indianapolis Collegiate Invitational in Indianapolis.
