ST. CHARLES, Mo. – University of Southern Indiana Men’s Tennis fell to Lindenwood University on Sunday night, 4-3. The Screaming Eagles battled back in singles, taking four of the six matches to a third set, but the Lions were able to hold their one-point advantage. USI falls to 4-9 (1-1 Horizon League) while Lindenwood moves to 3-4 (1-0 Horizon League).

Doubles:
The Lions were dominate in the number one and two doubles to earn the point. The number three doubles match went unfinished.

Singles:
Lindenwood continued their strong start, taking the number six singles. Senior Lucas Sakamaki (Louisville, Kentucky) was able to get the motor started for USI, taking down his opponent in two tough sets, 7-5 7-5. The Lions would take the number five singles before sophomore Quinten Gillespie (Whiteland, Indiana) kept the Eagles alive in the number five singles, taking down his opponent in three sets, 4-6 7-6 (6-3) 6-0. Lindenwood was able to claim the match victory after their win in the number two singles. USI finished off the day with a win in the number four singles from senior Yahor Bahdanovich (Minsk, Belarus) who took down his opponent with back-to-back tiebreakers in the second and third sets, 4-6 7-6 (6-3) 7-6 (6-4).

Up Next for USI:
The Eagles return home for a five-match home stand at the USI Tennis Courts beginning on March 21 when they host Hanover College at 2 p.m. USI then begins a stretch of three Horizon League matches with Belmont University on March 25, Tennessee State University on March 26, and with Tennessee Tech University on April 1. The Eagles then finish their homestand on April 7 when they play host to Duquesne University.
