  1. This all sounds great with one main exception: The big sleeping dog over in the corner that wasn’t mentioned, our sewers!

    • Not defending Mr Adams in any way but I think the sewers are a “Given”, it’s the poison pill that King John has left for all of us to swallow…and to be honest none of the candidates for any office is really addressing that issue.

      JMHO

      • In all fairness to Mayor Weinzapfel, the sewers have been an issue since before he was born.

        • On I agree it’s a problem that hasn’t developed on his watch…..but eight years of do nothing (including a plan) kinda’ in my mind makes him complacent to the issue.

          JMHO

          • So, the Mayor’s Stormwater Task Force, the resulting sewer plans, all the work that’s been going on over on the southeast side, the $50-million sewer rate increase to pay for the numerous storm sewer and sanitary sewer system upgrades, all that is just chopped liver?

          • Pretty much…..hey! wait a minuet I thought Missy appropriated that $50m, you’re telling me that Weinzapfel is the one behind the improvements?… I stand corrected. 😉

  2. I can remember making a trip to the city controller’s office a few years back in order to acquire the latest available Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).

The lady at the counter had no idea what I was asking for, she disappeared into the office where I could her making enquirers. She returned to ask what year I wanted and I informed her I would like the latest available CAFR. I could hear the lady in the back room say that the previous year was not available yet, and the year prior to that was likewise not completed at that time.

So what WAS available was 3 years old. Three year old data does not do one much good. It almost seems as if these reports a left open in order for changes to be made, if needed, so that all the pieces of the puzzle can be made to fit before the document gets published and becomes part of the official record.

What ever version is available today it would make good reading, especially when it comes to tracking the downtown projects. Since it is a “comprehensive” report, all the financial data SHOULD be there.
