Andrew Mickens hails from the city of Evansville, where he serves as President of the Vanderburgh County Young Democrats.
A member of the Evansville Economic Development Commission and Chairman of the Evansville NAACP Fundraising Committee.

    ___

    • Who appointed Mr. Mickens to the Evansville Economic Development Commission and when was his term to have expired?

  2. Andrew has not been President of the Young Democrats since 2010. I am the current President.

  3. rehab/therapy/stress/court-ordered/Eric Schmitt/Glenn Grammp
    fine young man/court continuance/public service/sincere regrets
and it sucks to be a convenience store clerk in this county.
Please arrange the above following words and phrases in the most
    original manner.

  4. I guess if these allegations are true this just further proves some people in politics will go to great lengths to get something for nothing.

No really much of a revelation when we think about it, is it?

  5. Interesting insight by Andrew Mickens from Courier&Press NAACP backs education over getting rich quick Q&A article November 15, 2009.

    === Quote Below ===
Q: What are some of the factors that underlie that achievement gap?
What do you believe parents can do and school systems can do to
    address this gap?

A: Mickens: I haven’t studied much of what the school side can do, but I know from personal experience; I was home-schooled.

Learning and education are key to your life, and that’s something I think is missing from the general debate.

I think sometimes in our community we see that you can go and get rich either in a sports career or a music career, and sometimes that emphasis on other careers and getting your education to expand your horizons and be successful in life has not been emphasized.

So I would say from the community standpoint that parents and community leaders need to emphasize that a whole lot more and take the emphasis off the “get rich quick” professions.

Something else needs to sustain us.”

    • It amazes me that a bright young man with a seemingly normal upbringing, focused on education, personal enrichment, and political connections could make such a significant error in judgement. This man whether he was aware or not, crushed the expectations of his community, peers, and family. There is written and documented proof (in his own words) that this man was educated and as such should have known right from wrong. I sincerely hope the judge takes this into account when reviewing his charges and sentences him appropriately.

  6. Well at least he didn’t have to be yanked off of a float. I wonder if Owen is going to thank him for his service to the Dem Party as well?

Durham, Jarvis, and now Mickens. The local Democrats are starting to make a really good music video for the song Smiling Faces.

  7. HEY! Wasn’t he one of the Democrats who wrote a letter to the editor supporting Winnecke? Hahahahaha. He’s one of Winnecke’s guys! Hahahahaha. Save room in the cell, buddy!!!!!!

  8. What does Jack McNeely have to do with any of it?
I think I have met this young man-I would never have expected behavior of this sort from him- always a polite, cheerful young man. I am sorry for his family, they must be feeling horribly embarrassed-and sorry for the poor clerk of the store, that’s a scary situation to have been in. I am glad no one was killed.
    You just never know…

    • He is a precinct committeman from Evansville’s 1st Ward. He has to live in Evansville to hold that position. It is incidentally an elected position.
