Commissioner Cheryl Musgrave reacts to Evansville ranking in The Wall Street Journal

LETTER TO EDITOR BY Commissioner and Mayoral candidate Cheryl Musgrave
In a letter to the editor and in a  post Commissioner and Mayoral candidate Cheryl Musgrave explained her plans to increase Evansville’s appeal for remote workers if elected as Mayor:
The Wall Street Journal recently ranked #evansvilleindiana as the third most desirable city for remote workers. Fast, reliable internet is the keystone of the future. That’s why I’ve been a champion of broadband access for years.
𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗻𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗻𝗲. Evansville’s access to parks was rated the worst among the other candidate cities. We need more parks and we need to fix the ones we have. Existing playgrounds, trails, and pools are deteriorating.
This directly contrasts with the energy we have brought to improve Burdette Park and trails. Improving our parks will help make #Evansville a better place to live for people who are already here and for people we can attract.
As mayor, I will install a new director in the Evansville Parks Department and fix our parks. I’ll continue to lead on investments in infrastructure to attract jobs and workers to Evansville.”

    Really.
Who is not for more of everything we like?
Musgrave: “We like parks! So do I! I want more parks too!”

With respect, Musgrave’s comments are pretty infantile.
Replacing the Parks Director? That doesn’t get us more parks, the Parks Directors’ job is to manage parks efficiently and productively.

Funding more Parks is the job of the Mayor and Council.
(State and Federal and grants represent funding too. Which, it appears, Musgrave is ready to claim credit for if “someone else actually does what she is not offering to do.”)

Musgrave? Musgrave expressed no willingness to expend political capital to increase budgets, or increase funding, for more Parks. That would have been a more mature Editorial.

  2. The secret is not to increase funding, but to properly manage the funding we have. Musgrave is better at stretching dollars and using them more efficiently than any office holder I know.

I don’t know, it sure seems like you’re making my point.

Musgrave editorializing that her recipe for adding “more parks” (..her words, in this article) by claiming she can squeeze more lemon juice out of the same lemon……just doesn’t sound authentic, or real, or legitimate.
It sounds like a throwaway campaign line to her own campaign staff.
Maybe she didn’t write this. Maybe someone on her team said “we need to get out a release that tries to tie youi into the WSJ article.”
