University of Southern Indiana Women’s Track & Field produced two brand new NCAA II provisional qualifiers and a few other notable performances at the Washburn Ichabod Invite Saturday.
Sophomore Mckenna Cavanaugh picked up right where she left off after notching a provisional mark in the mile at the Don DeNoon Invite she had similar success last evening. Cavanaugh finished runner up in the 3000 meters pacing her way to nine minutes, 37.78 seconds which was nearly 20 seconds faster than the NCAA II provisional qualifying standard of 9:57.72. Also, Cavanaugh’s 3000m time is unofficially 9th fastest in the nation currently and second in the Great Lakes Valley Conference only behind University of Indianapolis’ Lauren Bailey.
Senior Jennifer Comastri also went back-to-back on NCAA II provisional qualifiers. Last week, Comastri got her provisional mark in the 3000m but this go around it was the 5000m with a speedy time of 16:59.54. Comastri’s 5000m time awarded her third place in the race and is currently marked down as the seventh fastest in the nation.
The Screaming Eagles had three other runners turn in top-12 performances. Freshman Allison Morphew who ran with Cavanaugh was the other Eagle who crossed the line with a time of 10:09.44 granting her an 11th place finish.
Sophomore Hadley Fisher was the next Eagle pacing behind Comastri in the 5000m as she grabbed the sixth spot in 17:51.62. Last, sophomore Kaylee Lane dashed for the line in 59.30 to hold on for sixth place in the 400m.
