2017 Evansville City Council Preview
City council president Miss Mosby is laying out her vision for the 2017 council session. She has several things for the council to tackle in the year ahead, but it all starts with reaching a budget first. cm = new…
I’ve seen better heads on a flat two week old beer ,that also made me throw up a little in my mouth
Her vision as seen through the eyes of Mayor Winnecke.
Councilman Mosby,
The Zoo loses over a million dollars each and every year. The only play would be to land a corporate sponsor to make up the $ 1,000,000 annual shortfall. Good luck with that. Barring some benefactor, just shut the zoo down. “We can’t be all things to all people”. Louisville and Nashville have great zoos, less than 2 hr. drive away . . .why do our citizens have to be entitled to a local, third rate, money-losing Zoo ? Is this their birthright ?
I would suggest that Evansville finds itself in the same situation as Rock Island County, Illinois. Leadership is the answer.

Rock Island County, Illinois: Officials are considering the privatization of the popular county-run Niabi Zoo.
Donors favor a private arrangement, raising concerns over the county’s finances, which led to the zoo losing its accreditation. In December, an editorial in the Quad-City Times said that a public-private partnership would not be enough, recommending full privatization or to shut down the attraction. The county hopes to get the zoo’s accreditation back by 2017.

Here’s an update on the Zoo. The Zoo loses nearly $4,000,000 per year.
Credibility would be another area to address. The council is perceived as being less than transparent, and the members constantly referring to their cell phones during a meeting elevates the perception.
