The power outage at Atlanta’s Hartfield-Jackson Airport left thousands stranded and is also affecting those traveling through Evansville. Two flights leaving Evansville were cancelled today.

It was a long night for some passengers who were getting ready to board flights going to Atlanta, Georgia. The Evansville Regional Airport had a line of people from different parts of the nation who showed great patience while claiming back luggage and arranging alternate travel plans.

Chris Harmon, a Nashville native, says he was here in Evansville for a family holiday and is lucky to have a re-routed flight. Harmon says, “It worries me that something like that would happen at one of the busiest airports in the world affected like that but I’m grateful that there’s other options that Delta does fly through, so I was able to get out someplace else.”

Two women from Orlando, Florida were in Evansville for work but intend to take the opportunity to spend time in the city before heading back home. A three hour layover awaits them in Detroit, Michigan.

They say, “It’s frustrating to know that we are stuck for another night.”

“I’m glad we’re not stuck there through like in the chaos of it. We can stay here, it’s nice and quiet. We like it in Evansville.”

Those who are have scheduled flights to Atlanta in the next coming days should keep an eye out for cancellations or delays.
