How Can We Help You?

11

The City County Observer has decided to start 2012 with a fresh look. Over the next week we will be re-organizing and testing different upgrades. We will soon feature a few new columns by new local contributing writers. We are currently working on design elements that will enhance the site to be more user-friendly. This time will also allow our past publisher, Joe Wallace, to become acclimated to his new career in California. Joe will continue to provide us with his famous analytic, in-depth, well researched “Is It True” articles. Please be patient with us over the next few days as we transition into a new year and a new look.

As the CCO staff work on numerous projects to make our site more convenient for our readers we would like to hear any suggestions you may have. Are there specific features that would enhance your visit to the site? Would you like to see more coverage on state politics? National? Weather? Respectfully, we are not seeking advise on content of our publishing or opinions on editorial views. The comments on this article will be closely moderated. We ask for productive dialogue that leads to a more user-friendly site for your use. Just an advanced notice that any comments that stray from that goal will be removed. We look forward to reading your input!

  1. Suggest:
Clear and easy way to “Contact Us.”
    Bigger print/font, less margin area.
    More photos/maps to accompany articles.
    Applaud:
Willingness to shine light on “The Good, The Bad AND The Ugly” issues that affect regional readers.

    Long live Evansville’s True Watchdog:
    City-County Observer! …

  2. Link to Evansville crime map.
    Minutes of City/County Council meetings.

  3. Bring back the login dashboard and allow users to add avatars.

Allow users to post pictures….limit the size and rez.

Require a verifiable email addy before allowing a new user to post (basically click this link sent to the registered email addy to gain access to posting) (this won’t stop the trolls but will slow them down on the using different screen names)

A true forum would be nice….lots of work though, but would add to the experience by giving long term topics a place to be hashed out over and over. (would require moderators)

A mission statement button (on header) which would include code of conduct for users, site rules, and site contact info.

    Just a few….. 😉

    • Another……

An edit button seen only by the poster on his/her comments, basically this would reduce posts (save bandwidth) by allowing a poster to edit a post after it has been submitted (may not be possible in wordpress).

this post is a classic example…instead of creating a reply (new post) I could have edited my last and added content.

  4. I’d love to be able to search for all comments by a certain user and/or all of my own comments

  5. What about a Facebook style “Like” button so that we may complement/show support of others’ posts without necessarily posting individually.

  6. I saw where someone commented about this a month or two ago, but as far as I know it still hasn’t been fixed. In the mobile version if the story has a page 2, when you click to view page 2 it doesn’t take you to the 2nd page. It takes you to another page instead.

  7. I’d like to be able to click on the comments button and go directly to the comments. This would be good to come back and see what’s being talked about after I’ve already read the article, made a comment and want to see additional comments.

    • We will never abandon local news. When you see things of national nature it is because it has local relevance.

  8. I don’t now whether it is just me or does it take forever to load the “Polls” results? There has to be a way to speed it up. The polls of other media outlets load very rapidly. Speed it up.
