Cavanaugh, Martin lead Eagles in outdoor opener

MURRAY, Ky.—Sophomore McKenna Cavanaugh (New Albany, Indiana) and junior Kara Martin (Herrin, Illinois) posted top-five finishes to lead University of Southern Indiana Women’s Track & Field to a 10th-place finish in its outdoor season-opener Saturday at the Margaret Simmons Invite.
 
Cavanaugh was second in the 1,500 meters with a time of four minutes, 42.63 seconds, while Martin was fourth in both the 800 and 1,500 meters.
 
Senior Presley Warren (Henderson, Kentucky) was sixth in the 800 meters to aid the Screaming Eagles, who finished with 24 points. Juniors Emma Brown (Evansville, Indiana) and Georgianna Roeder (McKinney, Texas) rounded out the Eagles’ scorers with respective eighth-place finishes in the 1,500 meters and javelin.  
 
USI returns to action April 1-2 when it competes at the WashU Distance Carnival in St. Louis, Missouri, and the Lake Strike Joey Haines Invitational in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
