Can’t Hug The Ducklings At The State Fair? Offer A ‘Word Snuggle’

A momma and her son from Westfield spent time at Momma Town last Friday at the Indiana State Fair.

Jamie Meachul and her son, Julius, first visited the new exhibit last Tuesday, then returned later in the week eager to see if any baby ducklings had hatched. The exhibit features, among other animals, duck moms next to babies, babies next to eggs about to hatch or hatching—all the generations in one place. An adorable and educational experience.

Julius is passionate about ants, puppies, sharks and so much more. At only 12, he likes to spend time researching different animals.

“We love the ducks. To be honest, the mothers are way noisier but still kind and sweet,” said Julius. “Sometimes they can be very hasty.”

He said, because he cannot touch the birds, he likes to give them “word snuggles.” His definition was as precious as the baby ducklings.

“When you say something kind to them and you try to boost them up and make them want to look at you and say hi,” said Julius.

He noted that the word snuggles may cause the animals to like you more—you may even get a response from them.
