CALEA Public Access Portal

The Evansville Police Department is proud to be a CALEA accredited agency. The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) was established in 1979 to assist law enforcement agencies in establishing and maintaining high standards of excellence. The EPD was last awarded full accreditation in 2021, after participating in a multi- year process. CALEA thoroughly examined all aspects of the Department’s management, operations, policies, procedures and support systems. The Department conducted a detailed self- assessment and participated in an on-site review by a team of CALEA assessors. CALEA accredited agencies participate in an annual web-based assessment process to maintain accreditation status. The community also had the opportunity to participate in the process by providing comments and observations.

In January 2023, CALEA began a new Public Access Portal. The purpose of this public portal is to receive comments regarding an agency’s compliance with CALEA standards, engagement in the service community, delivery of public safety services, and overall candidacy for accredited status. These comments can be in the form of commendations or concerns. The overall intent of the accreditation process is to provide the participating agency with information to support continuous improvement, as well as foster the pursuit of professional excellence.

CALEA is not an investigatory body and subsequently the public portal should not be used to submit information for such purposes. Additionally, there will be no response other than acknowledgement to submissions; however, the information will be considered in context to its relevancy to compliance with standards and the tenets of CALEA® Accreditation.
