  1. Thank God! Unlike Winnecke and Nixon before him, maybe Mr. Heath is actually a Republican!

    • What difference does party make in a municipal race, really? If I didn’t know the declared party affiliation of an elected county treasurer, sheriff, mayor, clerk, whatever, I couldn’t even venture a guess in 99 out of 100 instances in the past 40 years I’ve voted in Vanderburgh County. Somebody clue me in on how to tell the difference. Is it the way they run their offices or comb their hair?

      • Really. Give me a for instance. Like would Robert Goedde have run the sheriff’s office “more Republican” than Eric Williams. Does Sheriff Williams run his office “like a Democrat?” At the local and statutorial level, how the hell can you tell the difference, really?

        • Lying, cheating and stealing…

If you can’t place names to the labels, you aren’t paying attention.

      • Short answer: it doesn’t. At least not in Evansville.

In Evansville, we have a One Party system. They call themselves Democrats, but the Machine is operated by a combination of people from the Democratic Central Committee, the Labor Temple, a few big business leaders, and a small band of Republican collaborators (Winnecke chief among them).

So when I say that Winnecke is a Democrat, what I really mean is that he is of the Machine, by the Machine, and for the Machine. His party label is simply a convenience that grants him access in certain circles and creates the illusion of “opposition” when none exists.

  2. I do not know anything about Mr. Heath but I bid him welcome. I hope to see several other people with critical thinking abilities and conservative values enter the republican primary. Let the debates on the issues before us begin, and may the best person win.

  3. Wow, and I thought the courier was bad at censoring comments. What was wrong with mine? The first and the last time I will visit this site.
