Treasurer Daniel Elliott Releases Statement on BlackRock’s Decision to Withdraw from the Net Zero Asset Managers Initiative

Treasurer Daniel Elliott released a statement on BlackRock’s decision to withdraw from the Net Zero Asset Managers Initiative.

“I’m pleased to learn that BlackRock has decided to withdraw from the Net Zero Initiative.” said Treasurer Daniel Elliott. “This is a much needed step towards safeguarding the assets of all state employees.”

In June 2024, Treasurer Elliott placed BlackRock on a watchlist that outlined its ESG violations. In December of 2024, the INPRS Board decided unanimously that a comparative alternative to BlackRock existed and chose to replace BlackRock.

“I am proud to say that the pressure we placed on BlackRock contributed to BlackRock’s decision to withdraw from Net Zero. This is a testament to our work against ESG investing. I hope that BlackRock continues to put their fiduciary responsibilities above their ESG agenda,” said Treasurer Elliott. “Hoosier public servants deserve to not have their retirements put at risk.”

Treasurer Elliott sits on the board of INPRS. An entity that manages the pensions and retirement funds for Indiana’s retired workers. He also oversees the investments of over $16 billion in state assets on a daily basis.
