Evansville goes back on the road for midweek matchup with Skyhawks
After earning a weekend sweep of Butler this weekend, the University of Evansville baseball team looks to continue its momentum in a midweek contest at UT Martin at 6 PM in Martin, Tenn.

Know Your Opponent
The Skyhawks enter the weekend the weekend at 4-7 after dropping all four of their contests last week against tough opponents. UT Martin fell to Alabama, 10-5, on Tuesday before being swept in a three-game set with Mercer this weekend. Tuesday’s midweek matchup is UT Martin’s home opener at Skyhawk Baseball Field.
Sweep at Home
This weekend, Evansville played its first games in Evansville this season and earned a three-game series sweep of Butler. The sweep was the first for the Aces since a three-game sweep of Bradley last March.
Powerful Pitching
Evansville road through the week on its pitching as the Aces’ pitchers dominated the competition. The Aces hit .258 as a team, while Evansville’s pitchers limited opponents to just a .187 batting average, in a week against Butler and No. 2 Vanderbilt.
Starters Lead the Way
As a staff, the Aces’ starters were solid all weekend long. Of 27 possible innings, Evansville’s starting pitchers pitched 17 innings, and allowed just five hits and three earned runs, while striking out 19.
Steady Shepherd Sparks Offense
Last week, the Aces’ consistent offense was keyed by senior second baseman Craig Shepherd. On the week, Shepherd batted .353, earning six hits, including a double, with four RBI and two runs. Shepherd’s weekend highlight came in the first two games of the weekend series with Butler as Shepherd went 5-of-8 from the plate with four RBI.
