I don’t expect giant strides in pro-life values or religious freedom under Trump, but He has said that voice like mine have a right to be heard, but since you seem to be unable to hear what I said, I further responded with a question for you. How will my values fair under Hillary? Will voices like mine concerning life and religious freedom be heard if Hillary is president?

        • Pro-life and religious freedom are not only evangelical Christian issues. But it always amazes me how often my religion is interjected into discussions ore by others than myself. I suspect it is that they believe religious convictions somehow disqualifies one’s point of views, so they would rather argue religion than principles because they can not win debates on abortion and religious freedom on the merits of their views.

        Are you saying that the idea that you “have a voice” under Trump overrides the 2/3 values you do not share with Trump. He’s a liberal who is pro gay, pro choice, pro single payer, pro debt (all the things you are not). He also said he will basically copy paste Obama’s immigration policy (which you were against til you said last week it was doable when Trump copied it). In the past, in between calling pro choice people baby murderers, you say those issues were dealbreakers when it came to you considering a vote for a “liberal”, the worst insult you think you can give a candidate.

        So you are you trying to say NOW you will override ALL those differences in real issues because “you will have a voice under Trump”. That’s it? Tossing aside all those beliefs and convictions for a “voice”? What?
        WTF the that mean?

        • I am saying that the 1/3 values I share with Trump outweighs the 0% I share with Clinton.

          Furthermore I would not vote for someone like her who is as infected with scandals like bedbugs in a cheap hotel mattress. If you think you can climb in bed with her and not suffer an infestation of more scandal, then I have to wonder what is in for you to make her president?

          I thought I had told you already that even though abortion fits the definition of homicide I do not call it murder. But then you only want to hear what you want me to say not what I actually said.

          I am not t OVERRIDING anything. I am saying that in this election we have two viable choices for president, Trump or Hillary. You can vote in protest or you can vote your values, but only Trump or Clinton will become our next president. I do not hold values in common with Clinton, Johnson, or Stein, so Trump is the person in whom my values will fair best.

          But enough of you judging me and putting me on defense as if I am on trial. Justify why you are supporting the scandal ridden Clinton and how promoting her to the highest office this side of the pearly gates will have a positive outcome for our nation and the world.

          • I don’t think that highly of Clinton, but she is the lesser of 2 evils by far. I don’t understand why you aren’t for Johnson. The reason I don’t vote L is because I believe their platform is further right than R. Their platform is so carefully worded. They seem pro gay pro choice on a Federal level but then they go into a STATES RIGHTS STATES RIGHTS rant that makes me believe they would rather discriminate on a state level (because doing it on a Fed level has proven impossible). Isn’t that what you really want?

          • I do like that libertarians like Johnson believe issues should be decided at the state level, so that puts Johnson higher on my list than Hillary, but he is pro-choice and supports LGBT rights but not religious protection. While I am not in favor of fighting the gay marriage battle again, there are more battles to come and in both abortion and religious freedom and Johnson is less open to that debate than Trump.

            If I was only voting for Trump only because I do not like Hillary, I would sit out the election. I have given serious thought about if being against someone justifies voting for someone, and I do not like the idea of voting for the lesser of two evils as my motivation.

            However, you are voting for Hillary for the same reason you are accusing me of voting for Trump. So where do you come off poking me in the eye with your long finger of judgment when you are doing what you accuse me of doing?

          • Trump is not open to that religious freedom debate either. He and Hillary are on the exact same page on social issues. Maybe you’re hoping those 2nd Amendment people will take care of Trump after he takes office and Pence will be your crusader again.

            The reason I choose Hillary over Trump is because he is so bat shit crazy that he would start a war over some perceived criticism. He has proven himself to be so thin skinned I can’t fathom him near the nuclear codes. I want the planet and human species to continue. I’m not ready for the “END TIMES just yet.

            Also he has no friends, no allies at all. How would he get anything done? He couldn’t even get people besides his own kids to speak at the convention. His cabinet would be the least intelligent among the mouth breathers. I guess he would have to go the executive order route on everything. Is that answer enough?

        There is no shortage of religious freedom in the United States. Hillary is not a threat to anyone’s religious freedom. It’s right there in the 1st Amendment. It is not under fire, it is healthy and thriving.

        I haven’t heard anybody come up with a reason to vote for Trump yet other than some unspecified hatred of Hillary Clinton. Trump is an unchurched racist, he has tarred many people by association. He will not be reopening that pot line at Alcoa. He is a conman.

          Religious freedom has suffered unless you believe the constitution limits religious freedom behind the church door or front gate. When one can be forced b our government to provide a contractual service which one feels violates one’s convictions at the cost of home and business, then the same is not free.

          I do not like Hillary and truth be told you are thrilled with her either. However, you are supporting her because you feel your values will “fare” better under her than under Trump, and you believe Trump is a danger. So except that I drive a fine Studebaker automobile, we are not that much different. Fair enough?

    1. Across the United States, early voting begins in 25 days. Tick. Tick.
    2. 71 days left? No. 25 days (and ticking) In fact: Minnesota kicks things off: September 24.
    3. Thirty-two (32) more States begin early voting after Minnesota.

    Trump supporters are panicking too.

  3. City employees who insurance may go from $750 to $5000 a year is basically taken a $2.50 a hour (before taxes)hit on their wages/$4250 on their salary! As in the real world, part time employees (city council) should not qualify for insurance!

    • I believe you mean their deductible will go from $750/yr to $5000/yr, not the same as what they pay out of pocket for the premium. And the City is self-insured.

      • PCD, I was not clear enough. Should situations arise that they have to meet that $5,000 deductible
        then may statement is correct. If a employee must pay over the current $750
        in the future, then it should be considered a cut in pay!

        Maybe the current city employees should let their voice be heard and stop patronizing any business, etc. that has any association to any and all of the city council! This insurance change will hit these city employees in the pocket book! Time to turn the tables on them!

        • $4250 ÷ 2080 hrs = $2.04/hr. Still a bite. But remember that additional $4250 is after what the insurance pays, i.e. co-pay, before the insurance pays 100%. It’s not an additional $4250 before the insurance pays anything. If they use their Section 125 Plan/Cafeteria Plan (pre-tax dollars) to cover their co-pay and the City provided clinic (no charge to City employees) it would take a catastrophic event to reach that $5000 limit.
          It’s that or the City employees will see a dramatic increase in the premium they pay if they want to keep a $750 max out of pocket.

          • PCD, $2.08 is after taxes been taken out. it’s closer to $2.50 “before” taxes, which
            hourly rates are based off of. Just saying!

    • That increase was the deductibles not the premium. Those who are healthy will not see any difference if McGinn’s proposal is adopted.

      Think about the reality of an insurance benefit costing an employer nearly $20,000 per year in a city that has an average wage of just slightly higher than that. This is not even remotely sustainable. The City should cap its contribution at some reasonable level like $750 per month or so.

      Taxing people who have no insurance benefit or high deductibles to provide Cadillac benefits to public workers should be a crime. Survey local businesses and set the benefit for public employees at the average that local businesses pay. Then the real workers who pay the taxes that support government will not be second class citizens. Only in dystopian movies like The Hunger Games can a privileged government worker get a $20k benefit with the private world receiving less than half of that.

        Weird. Crawling around in burning buildings, conducting water rescues and searches, and providing emergency medical care SEEMS like real work. Send me your cell number so I can call you for a reminder about me what a privileged government worker I am the next time my shift seems a little long and stressful.

        Also, just did a quick double check of my paystubs and store receipts, and glanced at my property tax forms while I was at it. It APPEARS that I pay taxes to support government as well.

        • Joe’s attitude today……….DIRECTLY results in Teachers that Suck. We need professional teachers…..and since the job doesn’t pay well…….the least we can do is provide good benefits.

          They are public servants, no different than Police Officers, Firemen and Teachers. Avg pay for important work…….and DAMMIT……..it should come with good benefits.

          Otherwise…you get crappy teachers (police and fire personnel).

          Smart kids that do well today…..had great teachers. Going back and destroying their public servant dedication……is sickening.

          • I have no idea what the insurance for teacher’s cost as they don’t work for the city. That comparison does not belong. I do know that $20,000 per employee per year is not sustainable for the City of Evansville.

            Hell, I’ll even take average and not complain! Our entry level firefighter/EMT’s start out at about the same hourly wage as an entry level production worker at Toyota, and they’re not crying in their firehouse chili over it. I would just prefer to not be told that I’m a lazy, overcompensated government parasite while I collect my ‘average’ wages and benefits, you know?

        • It is real work, but the reality is without taxes from the profits or wages from private businesses none of the government functions would be possible. Government first depends on taxation from the private sector including you as a homeowner for revenue. No one pissed in my coffee. The $20,000 per employee per year number is however not sustainable and not subject to competitive forces. It is too high in view of the wage base in Evansville. If it was in Silicon Valley where the average wage is over $100,000 that is a different story as those folks pay more taxes and the governments can afford it.

          Consider a county where there is zero tax base, zero private employers, and no state or federal cash to backstop local government. How many services would there be in such a place?

            I’m just a dumb hosedragger, but even I can chalk that up under the category of ‘no kidding’. If we’re conducting thought experiments, what would the private sector economy look like if there were zero people working in the public sector? No police, no fire, no military, no tax collectors, nobody planning infrastructure project, no courts… You can actually find real world examples of those places. Google ‘Sub-Saharan African Hellholes’. Great system if you’re a gun runner, drug smuggler, pirate, leader of a terrorist splinter cell or sex trafficker. Not so much if you’re the director of a nonprofit economic vitality organization devoted to attracting, retaining and expanding business and developing a high-skilled workforce to enhance the economy and quality of life of the region.

        Anyone who understands how trade allocation works knows that somewhere in Arkansas a commodities broker stole $99,000 from his book of clients and gave it to Hillary using selective trade allocation. It was legal, or should I say SNEGAL too.

I know you claimed if you got to meet Obama you’d have the balls to tell him what you think of him, I assume you let Bill Clinton have it.

Do you seriously believe that Donald Trump is the only American Businessman who is doing deals with Russia? No you don’t. So what is your point exactly?

I have noticed that you ignore all the many legitimate polls that do not show Trump close, regardless of which way they may lean. Do you care to explain your reasoning for that? If you take a look at FiveThirtyEight, you’ll find that it incorporates a lot of right-leaning polls. Otherwise, it would not be such an accurate forecast.
