Arts Council Announces new Abstract Art Exhibition

EVANSVILLE, IN – The Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana is pleased to announce a new exhibition in the Bower-Suhrheinrich Foundation Gallery entitled Abstract Art. A term used loosely to describe non-objective or non-representational artwork; abstract art can include both art that depicts a person, place or object, sometimes to a point beyond recognition, and artwork that depicts an idea or sentiment. Rather than being naturalism or realism, Abstract Art is the artist’s version of what he or she sees.

The exhibition will be at the gallery at 318 Main Street in downtown Evansville from September 12-November 3. The public is invited to an opening reception for the exhibition on Wednesday (Sept. 14) from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the gallery.

Exhibited in the show will be a variety of paintings, prints, mixed media work and sculpture. Among the regional artists included in the exhibition are: Sandy Schultheis, Cathe Hedgespeth, Sharon Harrison, Betty Farris, Richard Clouse, Penny McLeod, Joshua Dickman, Julieta Higgins, William Brown, Skip Kniese, Holly Rearson, Carolyn Weng, Jesika Ellis, Susan Petty, Les Miley, Carol Mathews, Connie McConaghy, Twila Black, Raisa Illarramendi, Shannon Bryant, Janice Greene, Sharon Harrison, Christopher Wilke, Heather Landry, and Bob Zasadny.

The exhibition is part of the art rotation series the Arts Council sponsors in the Bower-Suhrheinrich Foundation Gallery throughout the year. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and other times by special arrangement. Admission to the Gallery is free and the public is most welcome to view the work of local artists.
