Commissioners just want someone they can run over in my opinion. It is my opinion that she is controlled by the home builders and wants to let them do whatever they want to the detriment of the county. Cheryl lives in the Historic Preservation area (city) so making changes to the county zoning ordinance does not affect her. Just like changing code to allow tiny homes (only in county – city did not approve the same change). She indicated a strong want from tiny home builders. Unless a permit for a tiny home has been issued in the last year, there has not been a permit for even one and this was changed several years ago. Plus she is constantly skirting regulations. I worked under three different directors and Ron London is by far the best. Area Plan Commission gets a bad rap a lot of time. The department is in charge of enforcement of the zoning code. That is what the director is doing. Enforcement of the zoning code makes this office unliked. The Area Plan Commission has multiple times tried to revamp the current zoning code but meets resistance every time. In general a lot of people are unfamiliar with zoning codes but they are in place to protect the character and integrity of Vanderburgh County and the City of Evansville. Mr. London is doing an awesome job doing just that. I have said it many times, the builders and developers hate regulations and want to squeeze as many lots in subdivisions as possible, don’t want to install green space and enough parking etc. because of the costs. People who care about what the city/county looks like and how it is developed should stand up and defend Mr. London and this department.
