INDIANAPOLIS— Chip Ganassi Racing has partnered with the nation’s largest veterans service organization, American Legion, for a multi-year agreement to sponsor the No. 48 Honda in the NTT INDYCAR Series.
The team is represented by the duo of Jimmie Johnson, Seven-Time NASCAR Cup Series Champion, and Tony Kanaan, former Indianapolis 500 winner and series champion.
Chip Ganassi, team owner of Chip Ganassi Racing, said the sponsorship program establishes a relationship with an organization dedicated to supporting veterans. Ganassi also said that drivers were excited about the partnership, particularly Johnson, who has had a lon- standing appreciation for veterans and their service in the past.
The American Legion will be displayed on the No. 48 car for everyone to see during every 2021 and 2022 NTT INDYCAR Series race.
The national commander of The American Legion, James W. “Bill†Oxford, said the new partnership is a “win-win†for everyone who was involved. He looks forward to the opportunity that the partnership brings to showcase the way the American Legion strengthens America through its advocacy, programs and support of veterans and their families.
In light of the announcement coming on #GivingTuesday, a day dedicated to global giving designed to help change communities and the world, Johnson has donated $10,000 to the American Legion. Johnson has family members who have served in the military. He hopes that his donation will inspire race fans to donate $48 which pays homage to the number 48 car that will be driven.
