Officers were in the area of Maryland and Edgar Street and observed a vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, however the vehicle began driving at such a high rate of speed the pursuit was terminated. While Officers were still in the general vicinity of the vehicle, a Sergeant located the vehicle abandoned in the alley of 2200 W Iowa St.
As additional officers arrived, they observed an infant in a car seat with no other occupants inside the vehicle. A K-9 Officer began to track for the driver of the vehicle. While doing so, Officers were able to remove the infant from the seat and place the child in a patrol vehicle for warmth and safety. Officers located marijuana underneath the padding of the child’s car seat. Paperwork was located in the vehicle, identifying the driver of the vehicle, Emily Ann Howard (28). At the time, Howard had five active felony warrants and one misdemeanor warrant.
The K-9 Officer was able to locate Howard hiding behind an A/C unit in the same block the vehicle was abandoned. Howard admitted to driving the vehicle. Howard was transported to the hospital and then booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail on a list of charges and her outstanding warrants. DCS took custody of the child and placed it within the family.
