At the invitation of the White House, Attorney General Curtis Hill today participated in a prison reform summit with President Donald Trump, Vice President Mike Pence and other state leaders.
In March, President Trump signed an executive order establishing the Federal Interagency Council on Crime Prevention and Improving Reentry. The goal is to provide previously incarcerated individuals with greater opportunities for productivity upon release from jails or prisons — thereby improving the lives of all Americans by reducing crime, enhancing public safety and increasing opportunity.
“In Indiana and across the nation, we need to better equip those who are incarcerated with the tools to lead better lives after prison,†Attorney General Hill said after today’s meetings. “I was glad to share some of the successes and lessons from Indiana’s experience in this regard, including the effectiveness of such initiatives as the TenPoint Coalition and Jail Chemical Addiction Programs. Looking to the future, Hoosiers should expect to see continued progress in these areas.â€
Other state leaders taking part in today’s discussions included Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette, New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez and Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin.
