Aces earn 86-60 exhibition win over Tiffin
Newcomers lead UE in the win
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – It was a trio of newcomers who led the way for the University of Evansville men’s basketball team as Gabriel Pozzato, Tayshawn Comer, and Connor Turnbull combined for 53 points in the Purple Aces’ 86-60 win over Tiffin on Saturday at the Ford Cetner.
Pozzato recorded a game-high 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting. He converted four of his six long range tries. Comer finished with 16 points while Turnbull finished the afternoon with 15. Tanner Cuff took care of business on the glass, hauling in 12 boards. Comer led the team with seven assists and three steals.
Over the opening minutes of the contest, it was all Aces as they jumped out to a 17-4 lead. Tayshawn Comer, who converted three 3-point plays in the opening half, had his first in the early moments.
From that point, the Dragons found their rhythm as they outscored the Aces by a 17-13 margin to get within nine points in the final minutes at 30-21. Connor Turnbull connected on a shot and Comer added two more 3-point plays in the final minutes as UE extended its lead back up to 14, taking a 42-28 lead into the break.
Evansville’s lead remained around 15 in the opening moments of the second half before the Aces were able to push the lead to 20. Gabriel Pozzato knocked down a jumper before Joshua Hughes connected from downtown to make it a 54-34 game inside of 13 minutes remaining.
After Tiffin got back within 14 points at 64-50, the Aces put the finishing touches on the contest with a 15-0 run that put the score at 79-50 with 4:54 remaining. UE held strong, cruising to the 86-60 victory.
Tiffin was led by Allen Fordham’s 11 points. As a team, the Aces shot 50%, hitting 29 out of 58 tries while holding the Dragons to 38.6%.
Regular season play begins on Tuesday, Nov. 5 with a trip to North Texas.
