Aces drop finale to Wichita State

Genesis Miranda notched nine kills while Mildrelis Rodriguez finished with eight as the University of Evansville volleyball team dropped the season finale at Wichita State by a final of 3-0.

 

Miranda notched nine kills in 27 attempts with six errors.  Rodriguez finished the night hitting .238 with eight kills in 21 tries against three errors.  Kim Deprez led UE (8-24, 2-16 MVC) with 10 digs while Jelena Merseli had 11 assists.

 

Abbie Lehman paced the Shockers (24-8, 15-3 MVC) with 11 kills while Katie Reilly had eight and MaryAshton Floyd finished with seven.

 

Wichita State scored the first six points of the first set and went on to win by a 25-15 final.  A Stephanie Cerino kill got UE back within four at 10-6, but the Shockers overcame the run and took a 25-15 win.

 

Evansville improved in the second set, but it was the Shockers taking the 8-6 edge.  They led by as many as nine at 20-11, but UE made its way back within four as a Jelena Merseli service ace made it a 23-19 game.  Following a timeout, the Shockers regrouped and finished off the 25-19 win.  They clinched the night with a 25-4 win in the third set.

 

Miranda finished the 2015 season with a program-record 493 kills.  She set the single-season program mark last weekend.  Kim Deprez also had a stellar season, notching 598 digs and led the MVC heading into the final weekend of action.
