- The Aces found themselves in a hole inside the first 10 minutes of the match after the Cougars pounced early. SIUE opened the scoring in the second minutes as the leading goal-scorer for the Cougars a season ago scored his first of 2018 in the beginning moments of the match.

- Before the half, SIUE scored its fourth of the opening 45 minutes as Vncent Jackson II found the back of the net.
- With nine minutes left in the opening period, Evansville pulled back within three goals as sophomore Ryan Harris scorched one past the keeper in the 36th minute off an assist from redshirt freshman Jakub Hall.
- In the 66th minute, Evansville trimmed its deficit to two as freshman Nkosi Graham scored his first goal of his college career.
- As the match moved into the final 10 minutes, junior Filip Johansson gave the Aces a boost with his first goal of the season, assisted by sophomore Logan Muck, bringing Evansville back within a goal.
