IS IT TRUE? September 13, 2011

IS IT TRUE that it has been widely reported that the economic development announcement that is bringing Governor Daniels out of Indianapolis has raised the hopes of laid-off people who build things all around Evansville?…that the farewell concert at Roberts Stadium attended by Mole #6 gave us all a hint as to just what this project may involve?…that Mole #6 would like everyone to get up and listen to Bob Dylan’s “Blowing in the Wind” and to hold that thought until the announcement is made one hour from now?

IS IT TRUE that the Evansville City Council was treated to another 10 minute speech on the much needed legislation regarding the details of just how one gets grandfathered in to “coop” athletic racing pigeons in the city limits?…that this time it was not a gang of pigeon heads that dominated a large portion of time in the Council meeting?… that this time it was two City of Evansville employees who smiled and rambled ad nauseum about where, how far, how often to clean the cage, and other details that are meaningless to all but a handful of people who live here?…that some things do not merit a pair of speeches before the City Council and that these racing pigeons are a perfect example of something that should be delegated to a committee?…that when the human cooing started the old movie line “they’re back” came to mind?

IS IT TRUE that the highlight of the meeting was as he always is another inquisition of Ford Center project manager John Kish by City Councilman and Chairman of the Finance Committee John Friend?…that some people have gotten so used to the “Battle of the Alpha Johns” that they are recording the interlude for later viewing?…that the biggest surprise of the inquisition last night was not a pleasant surprise at all?…that the biggest surprise came when Mr. Kish revealed that the demolition work done on the Executive Inn parking tower is contractually the obligation of Woodruff Hospitality LLC whose contract with the ERC to build a hotel was rescinded for non-performance?…that situation brought out questions regarding Klenck Construction, a locally owned business was going to be paid?…that Mr. Kish was adamant that the invoice for the work done by Klenck that was authorized by Woodruff Hospitality LLC would remain the responsibility of the shareholders of Woodruff Hospitality LLC even though the work was done on land now owned by the City of Evansville?

IS IT TRUE that Mr. Kish intimated that this may become a legal issue that needs to be negotiated by those two parties?…that Mr. Kish went on to state that Klenck Construction cannot legally place a mechanics lien on the property because it is owned by a municipality and that the legal precedent for his position is a 30 year old case involving one Mr. Bob Green and the very parking garage that was just torn down?…that all of this may indeed be the truth and that it may indeed be legal but in a situation where the City of Evansville clearly benefitted from the word that was done on its property under an agreement between the City of Evansville and the contractor Woodruff Hospitality LLC, it seems usury and disingenuous for the City of Evansville and the Evansville Redevelopment Commission to take advantage of what was a good faith arrangement that went bad?…that the little smirk on Mr. Kish’s face when telling this story was not appreciated by some of the viewers of the meeting of the Evansville City Council?

IS IT TRUE that we shall address more on the “Battle of the Alpha Johns” in IIT Part 2?…that we never want to see a competent local provider get caught in the middle of politics and hosed for payment on a big public project like the Ford Center?…that many friends, family, and sympathizers with locally owned businesses may just remember this SNEGAL hosing and hold it against the Ford Center?…that we hear that the amount is substantially less than 1% of the cost to build the Ford Center and even less than the legal bills paid to Indianapolis firms that all contributed to the Weinzapfel for Mayor Campaign?

  1. I thought Mr Kish’s explanation of how Seager tickets were already being sold on the internet to be….well lets less then truthful, saying it was the Bob Seager Fan Club selling the tickets seems to be a bit of a stretch…someone stated that they had found 11 different sites selling tickets, are they selling the same tickets over and over?

    http://www.ticketliquidator.com/tix/tickets.aspx?evtid=1719262

The link above shows seats from $104 to $607 per seat.

    Thoughts?

    • We have been on 7 sites and it appears that similar but not necessarily the same tickets are offered. For example if 4 seats that are in Floor section 1 are offered they may or may not be the same seats. The other explanation that is attributed to VenuWorks is that ticket brokers who have the intention to stand in line or buy tickets online and then sell at a profit are listing things vaguely that they do not yet have but think they will get.

The most disturbing thing is that Kish and VenuWorks are giving different explanations. When the right side of the mouth tells a different story than the left side of the mouth somebody is fibbing.

      • I don’t know anything about buying and selling events tickets from a scalper’s point of view, or from the point of view of someone who buys from scalpers. But how is this Seger ticket scalping any different than what goes on for any Seger concert at any municipal venue? Any examples from other cities?

How would you stop this type of ticket scalping from occurring? Selling tickets only at the box office to persons who line up at the window in advance of the event? Can you imagine what kind of howl would arise if modern day concert goers couldn’t buy tickets online, and instead had to drive downtown, find parking, walk half a mile, and stand in line for an hour or two to buy a couple of $70 tickets to a has-been rock act?

        • No disagreement here, but it does seem odd the way it is going down and the fact that there isn’t a believable answer from either Mr Kish or VenueWorks.

Don’t these folks realize that there is a very bright spot light shinning on their activities 24-7?

          • Maybe they have more important items to attend to than providing answers about ticket scalping activities that are no different here than anywhere else in the U.S. Seems like the Nattering Nabob Nation has that covered anyway.

          • Della….is that you? That’s her favorite phrase, while you may be right about more pressing issues it’s just another in a long line of unanswered questions that someone should be concern about, to blow it off as it happens everywhere so we’re no different, or who really cares breeds complacency and fosters a feeling of we can’t change the way things are being done so just except it and move along…..pure BS!

            JMHO

          • Sorry, not Della here. I just borrowed her phrasing because it allows a little alluring alliteration.

On the other subject, the Natering Nabob Nation’s continual Quixotic tilting at the windmills of Weinzapfellia when that kingdom is close to collapse is tantamount to tiresome triviality.

          • LOL….but there’s still a substantial blow emanating from the direction of the civic center regardless of the kings reign coming to a close I doubt it’ll ever die down to a whimper. (last dieing breath and all) he does have higher aspirations.

            JMHO

          • Don’t all politicians have higher aspirations, some with more imminent expiration dates than others?

          • Oh yes…..Brad Ellsworth comes to mind, but I’m sure he’s doing fine with his gig at vectren….the bloody 8th does have it’s casualties even when you groom, polish, and coach them for years.

            JMHO

The good taxpayers of Evansville still wait before ERC/VenuWorks/Ticketmaster allow us the privilege to purchase Seger concert tickets. Maybe the City paid Bingham McHale $1.4 million in concert tickets that are being re-sold at marked up prices by the out-of-town resellers? Who knows because we cant get the truth from the City/ERC. Kim Jong Il would be proud.

    • Complete BS from local geniuses Kish and VenuWorks. The resellers show row/seat for ticket and our local geniuses cant explain how the reseller has the ticket. Really?? Will someone finally start telling the truth?

  2. Sorry Joe, Truth is a “dirty’ word to this administration, as is Integerity. A person with No Moral Center, has no shame or conscience.
