Name this Arena: Looks Similar Doesn't it?

VenuWorks and D-Patrick instrumental in attracting national brand to name the Arena

Update: As first reported in the City County Observer this morning the Ford Motor Company has finally been announced as the buyer of the naming rights for the downtown arena. Ford Center is the official name of the downtown Evansville Arena. In a deal valued at $420,000 per year for 10 years the Ford Motor Company has acquired the naming rights to the Arena.

Update 10:30 am August 17, 2011

The Mole Nation is now unanimous in confirming that the Ford Motor Company will be announced as the headline sponsor for the new Evansville Arena. For those who were guessing that is Detroit’s Ford Field in the picture.

Previously:

In a long anticipated action VenuWorks will finally reveal the name of the new downtown Evansville Arena in a news conference this afternoon.

The City County Observer has been inundated with speculation for the last few days regarding this topic and has really been leaning on the Mole Nation to come forward with this closely guarded secret. One source even offered to tell us for cash. We declined the offer.

So what does the Mole Nation say? The Mole Nation says that the name of the Arena will be taking us down the path of having something else in common with Detroit? The Mole Nation says that there is a stadium in Detroit that bears the name of the sponsor of the new Evansville Arena? The Mole Nation also alleges that there will not be even ONE RED CENT of federal stimulus money involved in the naming rights for the Evansville Arena?

Let the guessing game begin?

  1. Is it going to be Joe Lewis?

Dang. I was hoping it would be Sunbeam, like toasters ya know?

  2. Something in common with Detroit?

    High-Unemployment Arena?

    Urban Blight Arena?

    8-Mile Road Arena?

  3. Great news re: FoMoCo Arena ! If we had built it for 18,000 people, funded it with a 1/8 cent Sales Tax increase for the entire region and stuck it out by I-164 and the Lloyd, we would also have the Evansville Pistons NBA team! Only unfinished business now: buy out the D-Patrick downtown lot for parking, and pay a huge premium as a parting gift !

  4. Ford Motor Company arena, bet the Teabaggers wished it was GM. Think of all the great government jokes your gonna miss out on. I can live with Ford Arena, its one people would remember I think.

  5. Since Rick Davis won’t even take a tour of it, how about VOLDERMORTS Arena, it which will not be toured!

  6. Hopefully they name it the “Fusion Arena” or something more exciting than “Ford Arena”

    • How about the “Focus Arena” since there has been a lack of political and business focus on this project and the hotel? 🙂

  7. Fusion Arena would be a spectacular name. Fusing the new into the old downtown is what the arena does. Not to mention the power of bringing atoms together in the future of clean energy FUSION!

  8. Makes sense for Ford to buy the naming rights with D-Partrick right next door promoting and selling the brand. Ford Fusion has gotten very good reviews.

Buy a car and get free UE season tickets and parking with valet service for a year!

  9. “Ford Active Assist Parking Arena”

As we will need the assist feature on some Ford vehicles to parallel park along the streets!

    • One more, ” Ford C-MAX Energi Arena” Their new technology for Ford Electric cars

  10. FORD = Found On The Road Dead..just like the people going to the Arena after they walk 3 or 4 blocks from their parking spot..Also they better put a ATM inside the Arena, because people won’t be able to carry money when that are walking to the Arena because the might get robbed..

  12. “Other sponsors within Ford Center include the Old National Suite Level, the Fifth Third Hospitality Room and the German American Club Section.”

I suppose higher banking fees being charged to customers has the banks in a generous mood.

I wonder what TMMI reaction to this is. Maybe Toyota will purchase Roberts Stadium and bring in auto exhibits! Just having a little fun here.

    • We will absolutely not remove the link. We invite posts that ad to the discussion and promote a free press. We would never ever violate the first amendment for political favors. We are saddened that the Courier and Press decided to remove references to the story that we broke and links to it that were posted by people that we do not even know.

If they want to remove my links then fine, they must see us as a worthy competitor. To remove links or references posted by the general public is very different. That is censorship and very possibly a violation of the first amendment and the posting agreement that they require posters to agree to.

  13. One more thing. Is the the Betty Ford Center? The methadone clinic is only a couple of blocks north and Mulberry Center is 3 blocks south. We may just have the makings of a rehab cluster forming in downtown Evansville.

    • Ford Center
      The Centre
      Betty Ford Center
      Mulberry Center

I’m sure all of the arrangements have been made and they’re committed to this name, but they really should come up with something else.

  14. Wallace, you are a phony and this site is a disservice to Evansville. To think you actually listen to and print the garbage that idiot John Friend whispers into your ear late at night is ridiculous. Do the world a favor and step in front of a speeding bus.

    • LOL

Someone is awfully upset that the CCO posted this info 3 hours before the C+P

Go take your anger out on another trash can, Mr. Mayor.

    • “Do the world a favor and step in front of a speeding bus”?? Do you even know me David. Isn’t that a bit extreme. Thank you for reading the CCO.

I would like to apologize for whatever I may have done to inspire you to suggest that another human being should do the world a favor by adding to already record setting suicide statistics for the City of Evansville.

I shall not be taking your recommendation and wish you well in anger management.

  15. After reading that they are naming it the “Ford Center” I suggest that they put “The Centre” up for naming rights to avoid the confusion that is sure to take place. I have to applaud Venueworks…$4.2 million for a 10 year sponsorship in Evansville is very good news given the current economic conditions. Next question is…..how will the $4.2m be spent?

  16. Let me get this right we have the Ford Center across the street from the Centre..I hope the people don’t get them mix up when and if they come to town..the only different is the ( er ) in the spelling..not only will they have trouble finding a parking place they might not know which one of the building they are going too..GREAT job Evansville you have done it again..no parking, toooo many stop light, now two building with almost the same name..I wish I had the money to buy the Stadium I would give the UE the stadium rent FREE for the ball games..

  17. I almost forgot.

The f***ing Civic Center is across the street from the Ford Center which is down the block from The Centre.

    Yikes.

  18. Isn’t the science building for Signature School called the Koch Center? Then of course there is the Central Library.

  19. Now I really feel badly about poking fun at the Arena’s metal siding, saying Alcoa or an aluminum siding industry should vie for naming rights. Here all along the design was FORD GRAY!!! And me driving an F-150 not even noticing until now.

  20. The Betty Ford Center is a wonderful name for the Arena, the people responsible have caused us all to drink heavily.

  21. Hey CCO, in a week no one in Evansville will remember who “broke the story first” ! Focus on the perspective of the story, and give your invaluable interpretation of what’s going on behind the scenes. That’s why all of us visit this site, not because you necessarily report first, but you report more fully and with more insight than “those other people”.

Just one beerman’s opinion, there are two sides to every story, and I happen to like the CCO’s side best.
