On April 22, 2010, in a candidate’s forum sponsored by the United Neighborhoods of Evansville, republican county commission candidate, Marsha Abell, proposed that the Vanderburgh County Commissioners pursue the possibility of securing land to develop a second industrial park. The current Vanderburgh Industrial Park is on the far northeast side of the county near Interstate 64 and Highway 57. The current industrial park has developed into a mature park, according to Abell, and for progress to be made in Vanderburgh County land needs to be located now. An industrial park with sufficient land for the building and developing of a company is crucial to job creation and economic development in any area. Not only does an industrial park invite new and expanded businesses which provide jobs but it also creates jobs with the building of the facilities for the businesses. The creation of the current industrial park was one of the most successful ventures for economic development in Vanderburgh County and a second park will soon be needed if we are to meet the needs of future business.
Private industry has come to the rescue. Busler Enterprises, the Rexing family, and Gene Hahn have announced that the 60 acre complex formerly operated by Busler at I-64 and Hwy 41 North will be developed into a commercial property subdivision.
Hope springs eternal that this will truly be a private enterprise undertaking and that these developers do not show up at the public meetings of the various government subdivisions in Vanderburgh county looking for a handout from the taxpayers.
