On 6/16/2025 Officer Staats was dispatched to a residence in reference to a medical emergency. The caller stated there was a male at this location who was “blue in color, not responding, not breathing”. Central dispatch then began giving the caller CPR instructions. The caller was not comfortable providing CPR.
Officer Staats arrived and entered the residence. When Officer Staats located the male subject, he immediately began giving chest compressions. While treating the male, Officer Staats communicated calmly with a female in the home. The male began breathing on his own as Evansville Fire Department (EFD) arrived.
Officer Staats then turned over care of the male to EFD.
Officer Staats showed great control in a chaotic situation. He was able to communicate clearly and effectively with the female inside the home. His calm focus allowed him to provide appropriate care to the male and comfort the female. Officer Staats is commended for his courage and professionalism
