Two USI professors, Dr. Trent Engbers, Director of the Master of Public Administration Program and Professor of Political Science and Public Administration; and Dr. Matt Hanka, Professor of Political Science, are available to provide media insight on the papal conclave.
Following the death of Pope Francis on April 21, preparations are underway for the papal conclave, expected to take place between May 6 and 11. A record 135 cardinal electors under the age of 80—most appointed by Francis—will gather in the Sistine Chapel to elect the next pope. The conclave will follow standard protocols, requiring a two-thirds majority vote. White smoke will signal the successful election of the new pontiff.
