Richard, Comastri break 20-year old school mark

LOUISVILLE, Ky.—University of Southern Indiana Women’s Track & Field freshman Abrielle Richard and senior Audrey Comastri broke a 20-year old school record as the Screaming Eagles raced to a 1-2-3 finish in the 800 meters at the Eastern Indoors Friday.

Richard finished first in the race with an 800-meter time of two minutes, 12.15 seconds, while Comastri was right on her heals with a time of 2:12.46. The duo’s performances broke USI Hall of Famer Heather Cooksey’s indoor 800-meter (2:14.04), which she set at the 2005 McDonald’s Invitational, and currently rank first and second in the Ohio Valley Conference.

Freshman Addison Applegate was third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:19.39, while junior Emily Rempe and freshman Maggie Smith were fifth and sixth, respectively.

On the day, USI racked up seven top-five finishes and 14 top-10 performances.

In the 3,000 meters, senior Katie Winklerfinished second with a time of 10:29.37, while sophomore Sara Livingston and junior Micah Peals were fourth and fifth, respectively.

USI is scheduled to close out the regular-season with the David Hemery Valentine Invitational February 14-15 in Boston, Massachusetts, and the Blue-White Classic February 15 in Terre Haute, Indiana.
