Pulitzer Prize-winning author to present at 10th annual USI Shaw Biology Lecture
The University of Southern Indiana will host its 10th annual Shaw Biology Lecture at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 26 in Carter Hall. A book signing will follow the lecture. The event is open to the public at no charge.
Pulitzer Prize-winning author Richard Rhodes will present a public lecture entitled Robert Oppenheimer: The Man, the Making of the atomic bomb, and the consequences. Rhodes received the Pulitzer Prize in Nonfiction for The Making of the Atomic Bomb, and his book Dark Sun: The Making of the Hydrogen Bomb was short-listed for the Pulitzer Prize in History. This lecture marks a timely reflection on the 80th anniversary of World War II, exploring the pivotal role that Oppenheimer and the development of the atomic bomb played in shaping the course of history.
Author of John James Audubon: The Making of An American, Rhodes’ most recent work is Scientist E.O. Wilson: A Life in Nature, a biography of the celebrated American biologist.
This lecture is underwritten by a USI Foundation Endowment with the support of the Pott College of Science, Engineering, and Education and the Biology Department.
