University of Evansville junior Kyle Freeland was one of just 18 pitchers named to the watch list for the Pitcher of the Year Award, sponsored by Diamond, in a release issued by the College Baseball Hall of Fame Wednesday afternoon.Freeland, who is 10-2 with a 1.90 ERA, is one of just five pitchers on the list with over 100 strikeouts this season, as the Denver, Colo., native has fanned 128 opposing hitters and walked just 13 in his 99.2 innings this season. In addition, Freeland has surrendered just 13 extra-base hits during his junior campaign and is limiting opponents to a .214 batting average.
The Pitcher of the Year Award will be presented during the National College Baseball Hall of Fame’s annual Night of Champions on June 28 in Lubbock, Texas.
