USTFCCCA Top 25 Computer Rankings
The University of Southern Indiana men’s track & field team moved up three spots to No. 15 in the final U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association Top 25 Computer Rankings.
This week’s rankings reflect the accepted field for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships, which are Thursday-Saturday in Allendale, Michigan.
USI is sending five student-athletes to the national meet. Sophomores Johnnie Guy and Tyler Pence each claimed a spot in the 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters, while fellow classmate Tyler Schickel earned a spot in the 1,500 meters as well as the 5,000 meters.
Additionally, senior Michael Callison and junior Zach Watson earned bids in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and high jump, respectively.
Guy and Pence rank fourth and 10th, respectively, in the 5,000 meter and are sixth and ninth, respectively, in the 10,000 meters. Schickel is fourth in the 1,500 meters and 20th in the 5,000 meters, while Callison is 11th in the steeplechase. Watson, USI’s first national qualifier in a men’s fielding event, is tied for 17th in the high jump.
After posting an 11th-place finish at the NCAA II Cross Country Championships and a 13th-place showing at the NCAA II Indoor Championships, USI is looking to solidify its first-ever top-five finish in the USTFCCCA Program of the Year standings with a solid performance at the NCAA II Outdoor Championships.
Prelims for the men’s 1,500 meters and men’s steeplechase are May 22 at 4:10 p.m. (CDT) and 5:40 p.m., respectively; while finals for the steeplechase are May 23 at 6:10 p.m. Finals for the 1,500 meters are May 24 at 4:35 p.m.
The men’s 10,000 meters will be contested May 22 at 7:10 p.m., while the men’s high jump is May 23 at 3:30 p.m. USI concludes its run at the national meet May 24 at 7:05 p.m. with the men’s 5,000 meters.
