The University of Evansville offered the following statement regarding the Closure of Phi Mu Fraternity:
“The University of Evansville has been notified that the National Office of Phi Mu Fraternity, a member organization of the National Panhellenic Conference, has voted to suspend operations for the Delta Lambda Chapter due to declining membership numbers. This will take effect on December 12, 2024.
We are saddened by this outcome and want to express our deep gratitude for the chapter’s many contributions over the years. Phi Mu has played a meaningful role in supporting academic excellence, fostering leadership, and enhancing community involvement within our University and the City of Evansville. Since 1952, over 1,400 UE students were initiated into the Delta Lambda Chapter of Phi Mu. We are thankful to all the students and alumnae who have dedicated themselves to this chapter, the UE community, and broader Evansville community throughout its history.
The chapter will be provided an opportunity to appeal National’s decision. Current Phi Mu members of the Delta Lambda chapter will be offered transition into early alumna status. The University will continue to offer support to current members and will always proudly recognize the alumni from this chapter.
The University of Evansville’s Greek Life community continues to be a vibrant and integral part of campus life. The University remains committed to supporting Greek Life chapters as they foster personal growth, create a sense of belonging, develop essential leadership skills, and facilitate lifelong connections with each other, their alma mater, and the values of their organizations.”
