This year, the City of Evansville is partnering with METS and AARP Indiana to provide free bus rides on Election Day.

On November 5th, residents will be able to ride a METS bus at no cost to one of the 22 polling places in Evansville, thanks to a sponsorship by AARP Indiana.

“AARP Indiana believes that METS service is essential infrastructure to making Evansville more livable for people of all ages,” said AARP Indiana Director of Community Enagement, Addison Pollock “By sponsoring free rides on Election Day, we are giving all eligible voters an opportunity to exercise their right and engage in the civic life of their community.”

This program was created to ensure that more residents are able to vote in this year’s election, and that transportation issues do not prohibit them from doing so.

“We know that there are many residents across Evansville who can’t to make it to a polling place on Election Day because they do not have reliable transportation to get there,” said Evansville Mayor Stephanie Terry. “By offering free bus rides on Election Day, we can remove that barrier and ensure that those residents have the opportunity to use their voices at the voting booth.

“Voting is the most important right and civic duty we have as citizens of a democracy. This bus service will give residents the opportunity to exercise that right.”Voters are not required to vote in the precinct in which they live; they may choose any polling place that is convenient for them.
