Some Reminders for Election Day

    0

Election Day is finally here! After today it will be safe to turn on the TV without the onslaught of campaign ads, and the barrage of political texts will end when the polls close.

Early voters have cast 44,913 in Vanderburgh County. If you think the enormous early turnout means you’ll breeze through today with no line, think again. The county has over 136,000 registered voters, leaving 91,000 eligible to vote today. Not that we’ll see anything close to 100% participation; the largest voter turnout was 79,000 in 2008 when Democrats rallied and Vanderburgh County turned blue in support of Barack Obama. It could be possible to break the 2008 record if another 34,000 votes are cast today.

If you’re voting today, remember that you can’t wear any clothing or carry any signs with a political message. If the line is long, please be patient. Treat the poll workers with kindness; this is a very long workday with no breaks. The polls close at 6 PM, and anyone in line at closing time will be allowed to vote, but nobody can enter the line after 6.

    Your vote matters!!!
