Governor Mike Pence appointed Jim Atterholt as his Chief of Staff today. Atterholt, who served two terms as a state representative and led two state agencies, will begin work Monday.

“Jim Atterholt’s experience in state government and in the Indiana General Assembly, along with his reputation for integrity make him uniquely qualified to serve as my Chief of Staff,” Pence said in a statement. “We look forward to having him join our team, and know he will serve the people of Indiana well.”

Atterholt currently chairs the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC). He was appointed to the IURC by former governor Mitch Daniels in June 2009, and was named chairman in October 2010. Prior to joining the Commission, he was the State Insurance Commissioner for more than four years, and also served as a member of Gov. Daniel’s Cabinet.

He also served two terms as a state representative from 1998 to 2002, and was a member of the House Commerce, Economic Development and Technology Committee.

“It has been a blessing to observe the positive tone Governor Pence and his team have set for Indiana and their commitment to servant leadership,” Atterholt said in a press release. “The Governor has a heart for all Hoosiers and a well-deserved reputation for showing kindness to even those who may disagree. I am honored to serve in this new role.”

  1. I would not categorize Pence’s response to those who disagree as “kindness”. It seems to be more ignoring or condescending. There are a whole lot of Hoosiers who do not agree with some of Pence’s decisions regarding health care of the very poor, with his stand on same-sex marriage, and with his “everyone has to be a Christian to make the correct choices” mindset. I could name other issues as well. The fact that he may see himself as presidential material is sad and laughable at the same time.

  2. Attaboy Atterholt, hope you shop your talents around nationwide. You can do better than working for Pence. You’ll feel even more blessed elsewhere.

~~ This is some saccharine crap. Observing Pence is not a blessing unless you consider Scowl Gazing a blessing.
