EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana Softball had 13 student-athletes recognized by the National Fastpitch Coaches’ Association (NFCA) for their academic success in 2023-24.
The Easton/NFCA Academic All-America Scholar-Athletes from Southern Indiana included outfielder Mackenzie Bedrick (Brownsburg, Indiana), infielder Caitlyn Boteler (Bloomington, Indiana), first baseman Lexi Fair (Greenwood, Indiana), pitcher Raegan Gibson (Louisville, Indiana), infielder Hailey Gotshall (Lucerne, Indiana), outfielder Olivia Howard (Fishers, Indiana), pitcher Whitley Hunter (Nashville, Illinois), infielder Hannah Long (Haubstadt, Indiana), infielder Sydney Long (Haubstadt, Indiana), outfielder Kennedy Nalley (Huntingburg, Indiana), pitcher Josie Newman (Indianapolis, Indiana), outfielder Caroline Stapleton (Shirley, Indiana), and infielder Shelby Stivers (Louisville, Kentucky).
The student-athletes were among the 8,054 collegiate student-athletes honored in all divisions. Member head coaches submit team GPAs and scholar-athletes. The award goes to those who earned at least a 3.5 grade point average.
USI Softball recorded a 3.57 GPA collectively as a team during the 2023-24 academic year.
USI was 25-22 overall and 16-11 in the Ohio Valley Conference regular season. Both win totals surpassed USI’s marks in 2023. The Screaming Eagles captured their second consecutive OVC Tournament berth and came within a game of making an appearance in the championship round.
