Indiana Swimming and Diving: Olympic Team Trials Update

The penultimate night of the U.S. Olympic Team Trials inside Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis was light but special for Indiana swimming and diving.

  • Josh Matheny and Anna Peplowski were officially named to the U.S. Olympic Team on Saturday. More details here.
  • Kristina Paegle dropped a program record 24.74 in the women’s 50-meter freestyle semifinal, her second personal best of the day. Paegle finished ninth, making her the first alternate in Sunday’s final.
  • The final session of the U.S. Olympic Trials will start at 8 p.m. ET Sunday. USA Swimming will announce its complete Olympic roster, including its coaching staff, following the women’s 50 free and men’s 1,500 free finals.

 Women’s 50-meter freestyle

  • 9. Kristina Paegle – 24.74 (First Alternate)

Carson Tyler’s qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympics highlighted Indiana’s Saturday at the U.S. Olympic Diving Trials, as four Hoosiers competed in finals.

  • The winner of the last two NCAA platform championships, Tyler won the men’s 10-meter event with a total score of 965.45 – 73.15 points better than the second-place finisher.
  • Maxwell Weinrich finished 12th with a 564.95, his first time competing in the 10-meter event at trials.
  • In the women’s 3-meter final, Kristen Hayden and Anne Fowler at times challenged for the top-two qualification spots and finished fourth and sixth, respectively.
  • Sunday marks the final day of competition at the diving trials as three Hoosiers compete in the men’s 3-meter final at 2 p.m. ET. A 2020 Olympian in the event, Andrew Capobianco has the lead going into the final with 507.25 points, followed closely behind by Tyler’s 485.60. The pair accounts for the last two NCAA 3-meter titles. Quinn Henninger currently sits seventh with 395.50 points.

Saturday marked the final preliminary session at the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials as the meet winds down in its final two days.

  • Bloomington native Kristina Paegle posted one of 10 times under 25 seconds in the 50-meter freestyle with a personal best 24.80. Paegle advances to Saturday night’s final as the No. 9 seed.
