EVANSVILLE, Ind. – After two weekends on the road, the University of Evansville softball team returns home for its final two weekend series of the season, beginning on Friday with the series opener against Murray State. ESPN+ will have the live coverage of all three games.
Last Time Out
– Southern Illinois earned a 3-game series sweep last weekend in Carbondale but the Purple Aces put their best foot forward in Sunday’s finale
– Brooke Voss’ sacrifice fly gave UE a 1-0 lead in the first before single runs by the Salukis in the second and third gave them a 2-1 lead and two late insurance runs made it the final of 4-1
Power Play
– Freshman Brooke Voss batted in all four runs by the Purple Aces in last weekend’s series at SIU
– Her 3-run home run in the first inning of the second game tied her for the team lead with five on the season
– Voss finished the Drake series with a 4-for-4 performance, marking her career high in hits; in the final two game of the series, she went 5-for-6
– Over her last 20 games, Voss is batting .357 with 20 hits in 56 at-bats while seeing her batting average rise from .146 to its current mark of .269
Another Strong Weekend
– Recording two hits in six at-bats during the SIU series, Taylor Howe led the team with a .333 average in the 3-game set
– That came on the heels of a strong finish to the Drake series that saw her go 2-3 with a home run and a career-high four RBI
– Entering that game, Howe had just one RBI in her first 23 games of the season
Scouting the Opponent
– Murray State opens the weekend with a 19-23 mark and sit at 7-10 in MVC contests
– Taylor Jackson leads the Racers with a .290 batting average while Lily Fischer is batting .270; both have started all 42 games
– Kayleigh White paces the team with 17 RBI
